april 4, 2013 (SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT) - Logic Supply (www.onlogic.com), a leading provider of specialized systems for industrial and embedded application, welcomed the robotics team from Essex High School and the Center for Technology Essex to its South Burlington headquarters on Wednesday, April 3. Roughly 30 Logic Supply employees crowded around as the team demonstrated their custom-engineered robot.
The team (and their robot) partook in this year’s FIRST Tech Challenge. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. This year’s competition was an extreme version of tic-tac-toe: The teams required a strong and nimble robot to move donut-like rings onto a nine-piece hanger as quickly as possible, all while averting collisions with the competing team.
In the Logic Supply office, the robot--controlled by two Xbox controllers, one for the arm and another for the wheels--moved with grace from point A to point B as the team showcased their impressive cooperation.
Logic Supply was delighted to host such a passionate and creative group of high school students. “These students are learning critical engineering and project management skills that are valued by businesses today,” said Mark Heyman, Logic Supply’s Director of Human Resources. “You are our future engineers, programmers and leaders.”
Logic Supply recognizes that today’s young people will shape the future of technology and plans to continue supporting STEM education in Vermont.
